Poland Selected to Host Strategic European Patriot Missile Maintenance Hub
Poland will host a new European maintenance center for Patriot PAC-3 missiles, beating out rival bids to bolster NATO air defense capabilities.
POLICY WIRE — Warsaw, Poland — Poland has been officially selected to host a new European maintenance facility for Lockheed Martin’s Patriot Advanced Capability-3 (PAC-3) interceptor missiles. The decision follows an extensive period of negotiations between the United States and its international partners.
Deputy Defence Minister Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka confirmed the development on Tuesday, characterizing the move as a historic milestone. She noted that the facility will serve as the only maintenance hub of its kind located outside of the United States.
The selection process saw Poland emerge as the winner over competing bids from Germany, the Netherlands, and Norway. The project is a collaborative effort involving the U.S. government, Lockheed Martin, and several European nations, including Poland, Germany, the Netherlands, and Sweden.
The establishment of this center comes as ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East continue to place significant strain on global air-defense interceptor stockpiles. By localizing repair and overhaul capabilities within Europe, the facility aims to accelerate the return of serviceable missiles to Allied inventories and improve system availability.
