Keelon Russell Leads No. 13 Alabama Past Texas A&M, Snapping Two-Game Losing Streak
Quarterback Keelon Russell threw for 311 yards and three touchdowns as No. 13 Alabama defeated Texas A&M 31-20, ending a difficult two-game losing skid.
POLICY WIRE — Tuscaloosa, Alabama — Quarterback Keelon Russell delivered a standout performance, throwing for 311 yards and three touchdowns to guide No. 13 Alabama to a 31-20 victory over Texas A&M on Saturday. The win successfully halted a two-game losing streak for the Crimson Tide.
Alabama, now holding a 6-2 record and 4-2 in the Southeastern Conference, had previously suffered consecutive defeats against Georgia and Tennessee. Trailing 20-17 in the second half, the team rallied behind a critical fourth-down defensive stop and two decisive scoring drives to regain control.
Russell connected on 19 of 30 pass attempts, finding Daniel Hill, Marshall Pritchett, and Kalen Edwards for touchdowns. Despite playing without injured receiver Ryan Coleman-Williams, the offense relied heavily on Rico Scott, who hauled in six receptions for 156 yards.
The Alabama defense proved equally impactful, highlighted by a 39-yard interception return for a touchdown by Dijon Lee Jr. in the opening quarter. Sophomore Chuck McDonald III also secured his first career interception, helping the unit limit the Aggies to 278 total yards.
Texas A&M quarterback Marcel Reed finished with 163 passing yards, one touchdown pass, and a rushing score, though he also committed a fumble. Aggies coach Mike Elko noted that while he considered a quarterback change, he was pleased with how Reed performed for the remainder of the first half.
The Crimson Tide faced additional roster challenges, as defensive back Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. was suspended for violating team rules, and Red Morgan was ejected for targeting in the second quarter. Alabama remains without top cornerback Zabien Brown due to a leg injury.
Alabama will now enjoy a bye week before traveling to face No. 18 LSU on November 7. Texas A&M also enters an open date before their upcoming road game against South Carolina on the same day.
