DC Studios’ ‘Clayface’ Leads Box Office as ‘You Can See Everything’ Continues Historic Run
DC's horror-themed Clayface tops the weekend box office with $24M, while A24's documentary You Can See Everything surges to a massive $19.5M opening.
POLICY WIRE — New York, USA — DC Studios secured a modest victory at the box office this weekend as its R-rated feature, Clayface, debuted with an estimated $24 million in ticket sales. The film, which explores the origin of the Gotham City villain through a lens of body horror, managed to edge out its closest competition despite a relatively modest $44 million production budget.
Meanwhile, the A24 documentary You Can See Everything continued its remarkable theatrical performance, pulling in $19.5 million during its first weekend of wide release. Directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, the film has expanded to 2,655 locations and has already accumulated $45.1 million in just two weeks, positioning it as one of the highest-grossing documentaries in history.
Industry analysts note that You Can See Everything has captured significant attention from Gen Z audiences, potentially setting the stage for an unprecedented Oscar run. If the film secures a best picture nomination, it would mark the first time a documentary has achieved such a milestone in the Academy’s history.
Other notable releases included the comic fable Wicker, which earned $5.8 million, while Taika Waititi’s Klara and the Sun struggled to gain traction, grossing only $725,000. Amazon MGM opted not to report figures for the Sacha Baron Cohen mockumentary Ali G: Who Iz I?, which faced significant public backlash and a limited theatrical footprint.
