Inside Donald Trump’s Strict Three-Minute Medical Proximity Rule and Presidential Health Reports
Explore new reports detailing Donald Trump's strict three-minute medical proximity rule, personal physician oversight, and recent health evaluations.
POLICY WIRE — Washington, United States — A newly published report reveals that Donald Trump’s personal physician is required to remain no more than three minutes away from the president at all times under a strict proximity rule.
While maintaining round-the-clock medical readiness is a standard security protocol for the commander-in-chief, the mandate emphasizes the tight boundaries surrounding the oldest elected president in U.S. history.
Former White House physician Dr. Jeffrey Kuhlman previously noted that keeping a doctor and critical care nurse within two minutes of past presidents is customary, yet the current arrangement highlights ongoing health logistics.
The daily medical routine is overseen by Navy Captain Dr. Sean Barbabella, a 56-year-old military physician who completed service in Afghanistan before taking on his current White House post.
Barbabella is tasked with carrying out health evaluations for the 80-year-old president and drafting the associated public medical reports.
An individual familiar with Barbabella’s White House schedule shared that aides usually exit the room during private consultations between the physician and Trump.
The source characterized the doctor’s bedside manner as low-key and direct.
Although maintaining physical proximity is standard operating procedure, Barbabella’s public summaries regarding the president’s health have drawn significant attention for their flattering conclusions.
In a May 2026 report, Barbabella stated that an AI-enhanced electrocardiogram analysis estimated his cardiac age, which serves as an established measure of cardiovascular vitality, to be approximately 14 years younger than his chronological age.
Despite offering an unqualified endorsement of the president’s physical state, Barbabella simultaneously advised weight loss, diet modifications, increased exercise, and a lower aspirin intake.
President Trump remains in excellent health, demonstrating strong cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, and physical function, Barbabella reported in the evaluation.
His demanding daily schedule, which includes multiple high-level meetings, public engagements, and regular physical activity, continues to support his well-being, the doctor added, noting that cognitive and physical performance are excellent.
Barbabella concluded that the president is fully fit to carry out all duties of the Commander-in-Chief and Head of State.
This glowing assessment follows a long history of remarkably flattering health evaluations for Trump.
Back in 2015, Dr. Harold Bornstein, who acted as Trump’s personal doctor from 1980 until 2018, issued a statement claiming that Trump’s physical strength and stamina are extraordinary and declaring that he would be the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency.
Bornstein later confessed to CNN in 2018 that Trump dictated that whole letter, adding that he did not write the text himself and simply made it up as he went along. Bornstein passed away in 2021.
Ongoing questions persist regarding the extent of the medical counsel that Trump is actually willing to accept.
While addressing a rally crowd in Ohio, Trump spoke openly about overriding his doctors’ recommendations concerning his high daily dose of aspirin, a medication that Barbabella explicitly addressed in his recent report.
I take an aspirin a day, Trump told supporters at the event.
I don’t know if it works, but psychologically I need it, Trump continued, recalling his exchange with medical staff who told him he did not need the medication.
I said, Do me a favor, I’ve been doing okay for 35 years. Leave me alone, the president told the crowd.
