Beyond the small screen, McGuire was a fixture of the Broadway stage, appearing in original productions of Plain and Fancy, Happy Hunting, and Oh, Captain! She performed alongside industry legends including Ethel Merman, Barbara Cook, Bea Arthur, and Tony Randall.
Her theatrical reach extended to Las Vegas, where she headlined Mame at Caesars Palace, and she toured in productions of Oliver!, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, and Gypsy. In her later years, McGuire focused on community service, volunteering as a receptionist for the Coalition for Economic Survival in Los Angeles to support low-income tenants. While living at the retirement home, she hosted a talk show called GabFest, where she interviewed care staff about their personal aspirations.
Reflecting on her late-life projects in a 2019 interview with NBC Nightly News, McGuire expressed deep satisfaction with her activities. She described herself as a happy camper, noting that having the chance to do new and different things at 92 was an experience she could not imagine improving upon.
