Toyota Targets 10 Million Vehicles for Arene Software Rollout by 2030
Toyota plans to integrate its proprietary Arene software into 50 models and 10 million new vehicles annually by 2030 to lead in software-defined cars.
POLICY WIRE — Nagoya, Japan — Toyota Motor is embarking on a significant technological shift, announcing plans to transition its entire global lineup of approximately 50 vehicle models into software-defined vehicles by 2030.
The Japanese automaker confirmed on October 16, 2026, that it intends to utilize its proprietary Arene software platform to power this transition. The company expects the system to be installed in roughly 10 million new vehicles annually by the end of the decade.
This strategy aims to modernize the company’s fleet by enabling over-the-air updates, allowing for the addition of new features long after a vehicle has left the factory. The initiative is designed to help Toyota compete more effectively with digital-first rivals in the automotive sector.
Toyota has already begun the rollout of this technology, having launched the RAV4 equipped with the Arene operating system in 2025. The company plans to expand the platform’s adoption to the new Lexus ES in 2026.
Looking further ahead, the manufacturer intends to extend the availability of its software platform to alliance partners as the company approaches 2035. These details were outlined during a recent technology briefing held for investors.
