China Pushes for Concrete Global Governance Reforms at Upcoming Forum
China prepares to unveil practical initiatives for its Global Governance Initiative at an upcoming forum, aiming to reshape international cooperation.
POLICY WIRE — Beijing, China — Beijing is preparing to leverage an upcoming international forum to push for more accessible and effective global governance solutions. The move is part of a broader strategy to promote an alternative framework for managing world affairs.
On Wednesday, Chinese officials detailed a suite of initiatives designed to move the Global Governance Initiative (GGI) from conceptual theory into tangible cooperation. Proposed measures include enhanced coordination on artificial intelligence and sustainable development, alongside the creation of new dialogue platforms and dispute resolution mechanisms.
Foreign Minister Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, addressed the 23rd Lanting Forum on October 27, 2025. During his speech, titled Implementing the Global Governance Initiative for a Community with a Shared Future for Humanity, Wang emphasized that the GGI is rooted in the principles of the U.N. Charter.
The Lanting Forum, which has hosted 23 sessions since its inception in December 2010, served as the backdrop for these discussions. Participants engaged in detailed exchanges regarding the practical pathways for implementing the GGI, which Beijing describes as a refinement of its long-term involvement in international governance.
China asserts that these new approaches are intended to move beyond the traditional core-periphery model of the international order. By proposing these changes, Beijing aims to play a more prominent role in global reform, though the international community remains focused on whether these proposals will be matched by concrete actions.
