South Korean Factory Owner Sentenced to Prison for Brutal Air Gun Assault on Employee
A South Korean factory owner receives a three-year prison sentence for firing an industrial air gun into a Thai worker, causing severe internal injuries.
POLICY WIRE — Suwon, South Korea — A South Korean factory owner has been sentenced to three years in prison after a court found him guilty of inflicting severe injuries on a migrant worker by using an industrial air gun.
Judge Koo Na-young of the Suwon District Court delivered the verdict on Thursday, convicting the man in his 60s—identified only as A—of aggravated bodily injury and violations of the Labour Standards Act. The court also noted that the defendant displayed no remorse for his actions and had even deducted the victim’s medical costs from his wages.
The incident occurred on February 20 at a metal-cleaning facility located in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi province. According to the indictment, the owner pressed the nozzle of an industrial air gun against the anus of a Thai employee in his 40s, identified as C, and discharged high-pressure air for approximately seven seconds.
The victim sustained a traumatic rectal perforation measuring over 10 centimeters, or three inches, which necessitated emergency surgery. While the court sentenced the owner to prison, it dismissed separate charges of intimidation brought against the owner’s wife, identified as B.
