Belgian Police Raid Properties Linked to DRC President Tshisekedi in Money Laundering Probe
Belgian authorities raided homes of DRC President Félix Tshisekedi's relatives amid a major investigation into money laundering and mining sector corruption.
POLICY WIRE — Brussels, Belgium — Belgian federal police executed a series of coordinated raids on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, targeting residences connected to the family and associates of Democratic Republic of Congo President Félix Tshisekedi.
The operations, which spanned Brussels as well as communes in Flemish Brabant and Walloon Brabant, are central to an ongoing criminal inquiry into suspected money laundering, corruption, and the alleged diversion of public funds.
Investigators are currently scrutinizing the activities of nine individuals linked to the president. The probe focuses specifically on allegations that mineral revenues from two major mining provinces in the DRC were illicitly diverted.
The legal action stems from a complaint filed in early July 2025 with the Belgian federal prosecutor’s office. The complaint was initiated by several non-governmental organizations operating in the Katanga region alongside four former directors of the state-owned mining firm, Gécamines.
These searches intensify the political pressure on President Tshisekedi, who is already navigating significant security challenges and an armed rebellion within the eastern territories of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
