Republicans Retreat from Key House Races as Democrats Target Swing Districts
Republicans cut back on front-line districts while Democrats raise funds to challenge GOP seats in critical swing areas.
POLICY WIRE — Des Moines, Iowa — Republicans are retreating from key U.S. House races as Democrats intensify efforts to secure additional seats in competitive districts.
The Congressional Leadership Fund, a major Republican super PAC, has canceled advertising in several Midwest and East Coast races, shifting focus to districts where President Donald Trump narrowly won in 2024. Meanwhile, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is launching a $17 million fundraising drive to boost underdog candidates in previously unattainable districts.
Republican strategists say the shift reflects growing concerns over voter dissatisfaction with the economy and congressional gridlock. Democrats, however, see an opportunity to capitalize on Trump’s weak approval ratings and gain ground in traditionally Republican-held areas.
