Michael Jordan Jersey Sells for $14M, Sets New Basketball Memorabilia Record
A Michael Jordan game-worn jersey from the 1998 NBA Finals sells for $14 million, setting a new record for basketball memorabilia.
POLICY WIRE — Miami, United States — A game-worn and autographed Michael Jordan road jersey from the 1998 NBA Finals has been sold for $14 million, marking a new high for basketball memorabilia, according to an auction house.
The red jersey, worn by Jordan in Game 2 of that series on June 5, 1998, was purchased by Miami real estate investor Ron Firman. The sale was announced by Pennsylvania-based Hunt Auctions, which called it the highest price ever paid for a piece of basketball memorabilia.
Jordan and the Chicago Bulls went on to win the series in six games, securing his sixth championship. This sale is the third time a Jordan jersey from the 1998 finals has fetched at least $10 million. The previous record for a game-worn jersey was $24.12 million for a Babe Ruth jersey from 1932.
