FAA Warns US Airlines of Safety Risks Over Saudi Arabia Amid Military Activity
FAA urges caution for US airlines flying over Saudi Arabia due to military threats and navigation disruptions. Travelers advised to stay alert.
POLICY WIRE — Washington, United States — The Federal Aviation Administration has instructed U.S. airlines to proceed with caution when operating flights to or over Saudi Arabia, citing heightened security concerns linked to ongoing military operations and interference with navigation systems.
The advisory, issued on Sunday, highlights the risks posed by regional tensions, including reports of Houthi missile attacks on airports and disruptions to air traffic infrastructure. The directive is in effect until December 10 and applies to all U.S.-registered aircraft flying in the area.
Saudi Arabia’s Riyadh International Airport was recently targeted in two separate attacks, resulting in casualties and temporary closure. U.S. authorities have also raised concerns about potential threats to American interests, including drone and missile strikes. Several airlines have already suspended services to the kingdom amid the growing instability.
