Federal Judge Halts Taxpayer-Funded Trump Ads Ahead of Midterms
Judge orders halt to Trump ads funded by taxpayers, citing potential illegality as campaign efforts face legal scrutiny.
POLICY WIRE — Washington, United States — A federal judge has issued an order to immediately stop the Trump administration from airing taxpayer-funded advertisements promoting President Donald Trump’s agenda, just days before the midterm elections.
The decision comes after a lawsuit filed by advocacy groups and public employees challenged the legality of the ads, which were described as political propaganda rather than public service announcements. The plaintiffs had requested a temporary block to prevent the ads from running during prime-time programming, including sports events and late-night shows.
The White House confirmed that the president’s political action committee, MAGA PAC, will now fund the ads, with no plans to reimburse taxpayers for previously aired content. The Justice Department has not yet commented on the court’s ruling, while the Trump administration had already begun phasing out the ads prior to the judge’s order, according to a separate court filing.
