Severe Flash Flooding Ravages Homes in Central Nepal
Flash floods destroy homes and infrastructure in central Nepal, forcing evacuations and raising emergency alerts.
POLICY WIRE — Kathmandu, Nepal — A sudden flash flood devastated homes and infrastructure along the Budhi Gandaki River in central Nepal, prompting helicopter evacuations and emergency alerts from local authorities.
The flood, which struck on Sunday, swept away dozens of homes and damaged critical infrastructure such as roads, bridges, and a hydropower facility. Residents living near the river were urgently relocated as officials warned of ongoing risks through late Sunday.
The Rasuwagadhi-Timure corridor, close to the Nepal-China border, was among the hardest-hit areas. The Miteri Bridge, a historic structure, was completely washed away by the surge of water, rocks, and debris that originated from Tibet. Authorities remain on high alert as recovery efforts continue.
