Trump’s Space Force Uniform Design Sparks Sci-Fi Comparisons and Criticism

The proposed attire, which was shared by the former president, features a modern, charcoal-colored collared jacket, matching pants, a black belt, black boots, and a cap, all adorned with the Space Force Delta symbol. The design is said to be ‘inspired by the discipline and functionality of the Starship Troopers uniform, modernized for the guardians of the space domain.’

Starship Troopers, a 1997 science fiction film directed by Paul Verhoeven, depicts a future Earth ruled by a fascist government engaged in a war against giant alien insects. Some social media users pointed out the film’s controversial themes, while others compared the uniform to those worn by antagonists in other space-themed movies.

Healthcare advocate Melanie D’Arrigo quipped on X, ‘Designing the Space Force uniforms to look like the evil bad guys from Star Wars, who are led by an elderly, power-hungry tyrant, who lose, repeatedly, is a bit too on brand, no?’

Independent military history author ChrisO_wiki shared a clip from the 1987 Star Wars parody, Spaceballs, and commented, ‘Ah yes, I see the source of inspiration for this uniform.’

Jonah Goldberg, editor-in-chief at The Dispatch, expressed concern about the potential misunderstanding of the film’s intended message, stating, ‘My concern is whether these guys understand the point Verhoeven intended in Starship Troopers. The thing is I don’t know what would be worse: whether they got it or didn’t.’
