POLICY WIRE — New York, USA — Kalshi has decided to impose a lifetime ban on George Santos, the former New York congressman, from its prediction market platform. This decision comes after Santos did not cooperate with the company’s investigation into trades that were deemed suspicious.
A spokesperson for Kalshi revealed that the ban on Santos is a result of his failure to assist the company’s compliance department. The investigation focused on trades that allegedly earned Santos close to $18,000 in profits.
In addition to the ban, Kalshi has also imposed a financial penalty on Santos. According to a filing on the company’s website, Santos has been fined $71,356.
Santos previously served as the representative for New York’s 3rd District in the House of Representatives. He was expelled from this position in 2023 following charges of fraud and campaign finance violations.
Earlier this year, in July, Santos agreed to a settlement of $35,000 to resolve a federal investigation into his suspicious trading activities on Kalshi. Furthermore, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission has prohibited Santos from trading for a period of three years.
