POLICY WIRE — Oxfordshire, UK — A significant government-supported initiative has resulted in the removal of more than 22,000 tonnes of illegally discarded waste from a site in Oxfordshire, according to the Environment Agency (EA).

The cleanup operation, which cost nearly £6 million and was funded by taxpayers, took over five months to complete. The site, stretching 150 meters, was identified as an illegal waste supersite.

The illegal dump, located near Kidlington, Oxfordshire, has been entirely cleared following the extensive operation. The area, larger than a football pitch, was closed in October 2025. Concrete blocks have been installed to prevent future access.

During the five-month operation, more than 22,000 tonnes of commercial and household waste were removed. Additional waste was discovered underground by the cleanup teams.
