POLICY WIRE — Los Angeles, USA — The integrity of the Los Angeles mayoral election has been called into question after pollster TPSI admitted to fabricating data. The firm confessed to altering voter responses to show increased support for candidate James Fishback over his rival, Jay Collins.
TPSI’s admission follows an earlier revelation by another polling firm, which also confessed to manipulating survey results. The altered data indicated a surge in support for Fishback, a claim now proven false.
“We deeply regret our actions and the impact they have had on the electoral process,” a TPSI representative stated. “We are committed to full transparency and will cooperate with any investigations.”
The Los Angeles Election Commission has launched an investigation into the matter, aiming to determine the full extent of the data manipulation and its effects on the election results.
Candidates in the race have responded with outrage. Jay Collins’ campaign issued a statement condemning the actions of TPSI and calling for a thorough review of all polling data used in the campaign.
“This is a blatant attempt to undermine the democratic process,” Collins said. “We demand a fair and transparent election.”
James Fishback, whose support appeared inflated due to the fabricated data, also expressed concern. “While I did not know about this manipulation, it is crucial that we ensure the integrity of our elections,” he said. “I support a full investigation to restore public trust.”
The scandal has raised broader questions about the reliability of polling data and the measures in place to prevent such incidents. Election officials and watchdog groups are calling for stricter regulations and oversight of polling firms.
As the investigation unfolds, the credibility of the LA mayoral election hangs in the balance, with calls for potential re-evaluation of the results growing louder.
