POLICY WIRE — Bogota, Colombia — A 6.6-magnitude earthquake struck the Pacific province of Choco in western Colombia, resulting in injuries and significant structural damage. The tremors were felt as far as Venezuela and the capital city of Bogota.

Governor of Choco, Eliécer Arboleda, confirmed the extent of the damage. “There is significant damage to infrastructure, and we are assessing the full impact,” he stated.

Local authorities reported multiple injuries, though the exact number remains unconfirmed. Emergency services are currently responding to the affected areas.

Residents in nearby regions, including Venezuela and Bogota, reported feeling the tremors. No significant damage has been reported outside of Choco province.

The Colombian Geological Service (SGC) is monitoring the situation for aftershocks. Further updates are expected as assessments continue.
