Saudi-Led Coalition Strikes Oil Facilities in Yemen Amid Escalating Conflict
Saudi-led coalition attacks oil sites in Sanaa as Houthi rebels threaten retaliation. Tensions rise in Middle East crisis.
POLICY WIRE — Cairo, Egypt — A Saudi-led coalition carried out airstrikes on oil facilities in the Houthi-controlled Yemeni capital of Sanaa, according to reports from Houthi-run media and local residents.
The strikes came amid heightened tensions in the region, with the coalition urging civilians to evacuate areas near the Yemeni Oil Company site. Houthi officials claimed their storage facilities were empty, but the attack has raised concerns over potential disruptions to fuel supplies.
Following the warning, Houthi military spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Saree threatened a “firm and painful” response if the Saudi-led coalition attacked Sanaa. The escalation follows recent Houthi strikes on Saudi airports, including an attack on Riyadh’s international airport that killed at least 13 people and injured over 300.
