Bellfield, who’s currently serving a whole-life tariff for the murders of Milly Dowler and two other women, made the confession through his legal representative. The lawyer stated, “Levi Bellfield has admitted to the murders of Lin — and Megan Russell.”
Lin Russell, 45, — and her daughter Megan, 6, were attacked while walking near their home in Kent on July 14, 1996. Lin was beaten with a hammer — and left for dead, while Megan died from her injuries shortly after. Lin’s other daughter, Josie, then 2, survived the attack but suffered severe head injuries.
The case had remained unsolved for over two decades until Bellfield’s recent confession. Authorities are now reviewing the case in light of this new information. “We’re taking this confession very seriously and will be conducting a thorough review of the evidence,” a Kent Police spokesperson said.
Bellfield, 53, was initially convicted in 2011 for the murders of Milly Dowler, Marsha McDonnell, and Amelie Delagrange. His admission regarding the Russell murders adds another layer to his criminal history, prompting further scrutiny of his past activities.
