POLICY WIRE — Bucharest, Romania — Tens of thousands of people gathered in Bucharest to break a Guinness World Record by sitting at a 5-kilometer-long table made from recycled materials. The event also aimed to raise funds for the construction of Romania’s first pediatric psychiatry hospital.

The “Uniting Table” stretched along Unirii Boulevard and was recognized by Guinness World Records as the longest table made from recycled materials. The event brought together around 20,000 participants who contributed to the cause of improving mental health care for children in Romania.

Proceeds from the event will support the construction of a 3,900-square-meter facility within the Obregia Hospital complex in Bucharest. The hospital, funded through private donations and sponsorships, is expected to cost 16.5 million euros and will serve over 5,700 children annually facing severe mental illnesses.
