POLICY WIRE — London, United Kingdom — A significant fire has broken out on the 18th floor of a residential tower block in east London, prompting an extensive firefighting operation.

The incident occurred at around 4:35 am on Saturday, September 12, when London Fire Brigade units were called to a flat on Blackwall Way in Poplar. The blaze spread across half of the unit and required more than 70 firefighters to contain it.

Multiple fire engines were deployed to the scene, with crews working to control the flames and prevent further damage. This comes as the fire service also responded to a separate battery-related fire in a 13-storey building, where eight fire engines and approximately 60 firefighters were sent to the site.
