Firefighter Becomes Fourth Fatality in Colorado-Utah Border Wildfire
A fourth firefighter has died battling the Knowles fire near the Colorado-Utah border, as wildfires continue to ravage the region.
POLICY WIRE — City, Country — A fourth firefighter has tragically died while combating the Knowles fire near the Colorado-Utah border, authorities confirmed today. The blaze, which has been raging for several days, has now claimed the lives of four firefighters.
Three firefighters perished at the scene of the fire, and a fourth succumbed to injuries sustained during firefighting efforts. The names of the fallen firefighters haven’t yet been released.
The Knowles fire, one of several wildfires currently burning across the western United States, has prompted an aggressive response from firefighting crews. However, extreme weather conditions — and dense forest have complicated containment efforts.
