Zelenskyy Accuses Russia of Ignoring Energy Ceasefire as Attacks Continue
Ukraine's Zelenskyy claims Russia isn't complying with energy ceasefire. Trump calls for peace talks amid ongoing attacks.
POLICY WIRE — Kyiv, Ukraine — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has accused Russia of failing to adhere to an energy ceasefire announced by U.S. President Donald Trump, citing continued attacks on critical infrastructure.
Zelenskyy stated that there is currently no evidence Russia is following the terms of the agreement, which was introduced the previous day. Just hours after the announcement, Russian forces targeted a power plant in eastern Ukraine, followed by further strikes on six other energy facilities by Monday afternoon.
Trump responded to reports of violations by expressing uncertainty but emphasized the need for Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin to negotiate an end to the conflict. He also suggested that both sides had engaged in breaches of the ceasefire. Meanwhile, analysts note that Russia’s attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure have a more significant impact than Ukraine’s counterattacks on Russian oil and gas facilities.
