Yellowstone National Park Secures Record $105 Million Private Donation for Infrastructure
Yellowstone National Park receives a historic $105 million gift from Tallgrass to fund new visitor centers, conservation efforts, and educational programs.
POLICY WIRE — Cheyenne, USA — Yellowstone National Park has secured a landmark $105 million donation, marking the largest private contribution in the history of the national park system. The funding is a collaborative effort between the park, its nonprofit partner Yellowstone Forever, and the Colorado-based infrastructure firm Tallgrass.
The capital will establish the Tallgrass WYld Yellowstone Initiative, a long-term stewardship fund designed to bolster conservation research, upgrade aging infrastructure, and expand access for Wyoming students and families. A centerpiece of the investment is a $35 million visitor center planned for the Norris Geyser Basin, which aims to provide more interactive experiences for the public.
Tallgrass executive Steven Davidson noted that the initiative is specifically tailored to benefit Wyoming residents, ensuring local youth can better engage with the 2.2 million-acre reserve. Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon praised the gift as an extraordinary opportunity to connect the state’s school children with the park’s unique history and ecological significance.
Interior Secretary Doug Burgum lauded the partnership as a historic union of American enterprise and conservation. The investment arrives as the National Park Service grapples with an estimated $1.2 billion in deferred maintenance needs across the park, which is currently under the leadership of Acting Superintendent Barclay Trimble.
Tallgrass, a Blackstone Infrastructure portfolio company, is simultaneously developing a major AI-focused energy hub near Cheyenne. While the company’s industrial projects have faced scrutiny from local residents, leadership emphasized that this donation reflects a commitment to investing in the future of the region and the preservation of its most iconic natural landmark.
