The incident began when Bailee Lynn Rios, 36, was driving a 2004 Ford Expedition the wrong way on De Soto Avenue before running a red light and crashing into an eastbound Metro Line 166 bus. The vehicle struck the bus at high speed, sending at least one passenger flying from the scene.

Emergency crews transported six injured individuals, including Rios, to hospitals, where victims suffered severe injuries. Two fatalities were confirmed: 46-year-old Daniel Castillo and 31-year-old Gage Weida. Hours later, an NBC News helicopter crashed nearby, killing reporter Eliana Moreno, pilot George Marciniw, and a pedestrian, Edy Gutierrez Mejia.
