POLICY WIRE — Provo, Utah — Utah’s higher education institutions are taking steps to improve campus safety following the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University, according to a newly released report.
The Utah System of Higher Education (USHE) approved the document, which outlines recommendations for better coordination between schools and law enforcement, as well as enhanced measures for event security across all campuses.

The report was issued more than a year after Kirk was killed during a live debate at UVU. The suspect, Tyler Robinson, who is not affiliated with the university, faces multiple charges, including aggravated murder. While some institutions have expressed support for the proposed changes, others have raised concerns about funding and implementation capacity.
