POLICY WIRE — London, United Kingdom — Students in England, Wales and Northern Ireland will soon be able to sit for a Ukrainian GCSE, a move announced by the UK government as part of its education reforms aimed at supporting refugee pupils.
The qualification will recognise proficiency in Ukrainian language and culture, offering a formal academic route for schools and colleges that can incorporate it into the curriculum.
If approved, the subject would join optional GCSE choices alongside foreign languages, geography and business, helping displaced learners maintain ties to their heritage while expanding future opportunities.
