In response, Israel closed the British consulate in east Jerusalem and barred 11 U.K. lawmakers from entering the country. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar condemned the action as despicable, vowing to expel U.K. representatives from a joint military center and halt training programs for Palestinian security forces. Meanwhile, the U.K. also expanded its arms embargo to include weapons that contribute to the occupation of Palestinian territories.
