Uber Secures Legal Victory Against £340 Million London Black Cab Lawsuit
Uber defeats a massive £340m lawsuit from 13,000 London black cab drivers after the High Court rules the claims were filed past the legal time limit.
POLICY WIRE — London, United Kingdom — Uber has successfully fended off a massive £340 million legal challenge initiated by thousands of London black cab drivers. The ride-hailing giant secured a victory in the High Court, effectively dismissing two lawsuits that had been looming over the company.
The litigation involved approximately 13,000 taxi drivers who alleged that Uber operated unlawfully between 2012 and March 2018. The claimants argued that these business practices resulted in significant lost earnings for the cabbies.
However, the High Court ruled in favor of Uber, determining that the drivers had waited too long to initiate legal action. The court found that the claims, which were filed in 2024, were time-barred because they fell outside the mandatory six-year limitation period.
Prior to the ruling, Uber had characterized the massive damages case as completely unfounded. The company maintained that the legal pursuit lacked merit, successfully arguing that the delay in filing rendered the claims invalid under current UK competition and damages law.
