POLICY WIRE — Minneapolis, USA — A violent shooting in the heart of downtown Minneapolis has left several people wounded, including two police officers, according to official city alerts.
The incident occurred near 15 East Grant Street, prompting authorities to warn the public to steer clear of the vicinity as the scene remained active.
Law enforcement established a wide perimeter, requesting that residents avoid the zone stretching from 12th Street to Franklin Avenue and from Hennepin Avenue to Third Avenue South.
The response involved a massive mobilization of agencies. In addition to the Minneapolis Police Department, personnel and vehicles arrived from the Minnesota State Patrol, transit police, and the University of Minnesota.
Support also came from sheriff’s deputies in neighboring jurisdictions as well as officers from Edina and St. Louis Park.
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz confirmed that his public safety team is addressing the afternoon attack, noting that state officials are currently on-site to assist local police.
“My public safety team is responding to a shooting that took place downtown Minneapolis this afternoon. State officials are on the ground to support local law enforcement and we will share more information as it becomes available,” Walz stated.

Operations centered on a Grant Street apartment building, where officers equipped with long guns maintained a perimeter for a significant amount of time.
Two armored SWAT vehicles were positioned at the intersection, while a line of ambulances occupied the immediate area and the street leading toward the city center.
Emergency responders were seen transporting several victims from the building on stretchers. While some individuals appeared to have leg injuries, the status of other victims remains unknown.
Conor Wight of WCCO reported that onlookers noticed activity on the eighth floor of the complex, where residents were visible in their windows as police evaluated the situation.
