Trump Pushes for Alabama Bridge to Bear His Name Amid Ongoing Naming Controversies
Trump seeks to name Alabama's $3.2B bridge after himself, as Biden-era funds support the project.
POLICY WIRE — Mobile, United States — President Donald Trump has expressed a desire for the $3.2 billion Mobile River Bridge and Bayway project in Alabama to be named after him, adding it to a growing list of structures he has sought recognition for.
At a rally in Mobile, Trump praised the project, which was partially funded by a $3 billion allocation from his administration. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy noted that the initiative was made possible through a combination of federal funding sources, including a $2.52 billion loan under the Trump administration and a $550 million grant approved during the Biden administration.

Rep. Shomari Figures, a Democrat from Alabama, acknowledged both administrations’ contributions to the project, calling the Biden-funded grant a significant investment. Meanwhile, Trump has previously seen his name attached to the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and Palm Beach International Airport in Florida, though legal challenges have led to some removals. The president has also been linked to discussions about naming other landmarks, though he has denied such reports.
