Trump Appoints Adam Telle as Acting Army Secretary Following Dan Driscoll’s Resignation

POLICY WIRE — Washington, D.C. — President Trump announced on Thursday that Adam Telle will serve as the acting secretary of the Army.

Telle, who currently holds the position of assistant secretary of the Army for civil works, steps into the role after Dan Driscoll resigned earlier this week.

According to an official Army biography, Telle brings over two decades of experience working for Republican senators to the post.

He also previously served in the White House during Trump’s first administration as the chief liaison to the Senate.

Taking to Truth Social, President Trump praised the appointment, stating, He is a Great Patriot, who is respected by all.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth supported the move on X, writing, Huge congrats to Adam. Strong and whip smart.

Hegseth added that Telle “is indeed a great Patriot — and will be an immediate asset to the @USArmy.”

Driscoll’s exit as the Army’s primary civilian leader follows several months of internal tension with Hegseth.

This departure is the most recent in a series of high-ranking military exits under Hegseth’s tenure.

In April, Hegseth requested the resignation of Army Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George, who maintained a close friendship with Driscoll.

Shortly thereafter, Gen. Chris Donahue, the commander of U.S. Army Europe and Africa, filed for retirement.

Last year, Driscoll and George introduced the Army Transformation Initiative, a plan designed to modernize the force.

The initiative focused on removing outdated gear, adjusting force structures, and increasing the use of drones and other new technologies.

Telle assumes leadership of the country’s largest military branch while the U.S. remains in a conflict with Iran.

With substantial Army assets currently deployed in the Middle East, the ongoing war has strained supplies of vital weaponry.

Specifically, the Army has seen shortfalls in THAAD and Patriot defense missile interceptor systems.

The resignation of Driscoll drew criticism from both sides of the aisle, with some lawmakers pointing to Hegseth as the cause.

Retiring Republican Sen. Thom Tillis of North Carolina, who has occasionally disagreed with Trump, posted that Hegseth “is creating a leadership void at the top of our military ranks.”
