Tesla’s FSD System Frequently Misses Speed Limits, Belgian Group Reports

POLICY WIRE — Brussels, Belgium — A Belgian road-safety organization has revealed that Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) system frequently exceeds speed limits and attempts to overtake cyclists on restricted roads, according to a report based on testing conducted in July.
The group, Johanna.be, which focuses on pedestrian and cyclist safety, monitored the system across 400 kilometers of roads around Brussels. It found that FSD often exceeded limits in 20 km/h and 30 km/h zones and incorrectly displayed higher speed limits, potentially misleading drivers about safe speeds.

Johanna.be highlighted that even when the vehicle recognized 30 km/h signs, it frequently showed a 50 km/h limit. The report also included videos showing FSD attempting to overtake cyclists where such maneuvers are not permitted. Despite these issues, the system was noted for being cautious around pedestrians and cyclists. The group urged authorities to reassess approvals, as the findings raise serious questions about the reliability of automated driving systems.
