Tesco, Sainsbury’s Remove Disposable BBQs Amid Wildfire Concerns

The NFCC has urged retailers to remove disposable barbecues from shelves to reduce the potential for accidental fires during periods of dry weather. The council’s guidance highlights the increased danger of wildfires, particularly in areas prone to drought and high temperatures.

Tesco — and Sainsbury’s are among the retailers that have implemented this measure. The decision comes as the UK experiences an unusually hot summer, with temperatures soaring and dry conditions persisting across many regions.

The NFCC’s call to action follows a series of wildfires that have broken out in various parts of the country, causing significant damage to property and natural habitats. The NFCC’s guidance also recommends that consumers use alternative, safer methods for outdoor cooking, such as charcoal barbecues with proper ventilation and supervision. The council stresses the importance of adhering to local fire bans — and restrictions when they’re in place.
