Suspect Detained After Fire Erupts at Hitler’s Former ‘Eagle’s Nest’ Retreat
German authorities have arrested a suspect following a major fire at the Kehlsteinhaus, the historic Bavarian mountain retreat once used by Adolf Hitler.
POLICY WIRE — Berlin, Germany — German law enforcement officials confirmed on October 24 that a suspect has been taken into custody following a significant blaze at the Kehlsteinhaus, the historic mountain guest house widely recognized as the Eagle’s Nest.
The structure, situated in the Bavarian Alps, served as a prominent retreat for Nazi leadership, including dictator Adolf Hitler. The fire, which ignited on Friday evening, presented substantial challenges for emergency responders due to the site’s remote and high-altitude location.
Authorities reported that a suspicious individual was placed into temporary custody as investigations into the incident continue. While the building sustained damage, the specific cause of the fire remains under investigation, according to reports from the DPA agency.
