POLICY WIRE — Los Angeles, USA — Shelley Fabares, the acclaimed actor best known for her roles in “The Donna Reed Show,” “One Day at a Time,” and “Coach,” passed away at the age of 82. The news of her death has elicited an outpouring of tributes from fans and colleagues.
Fabares began her career as a child actor, gaining widespread recognition for her portrayal of Mary Stone in “The Donna Reed Show” (1958-1963). Her performance in the series earned her a Golden Globe Award for Most Promising Newcomer in 1961.
In addition to her television success, Fabares had a notable music career. Her 1962 hit single “Johnny Angel” reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, earning her a gold record.
Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Fabares continued to make significant contributions to television. She starred as Anne Romano in the hit series “One Day at a Time” (1975-1984), for which she received two Emmy Award nominations. Her role as Christine Armstrong in “Coach” (1989-1997) further solidified her status as a versatile and beloved actor.
Fabares’ career spanned several decades, during which she appeared in numerous television shows and films. Her talent and charm endeared her to audiences worldwide.
Tributes have been pouring in from her peers and admirers. Actor Fred Savage, who worked with Fabares on “The Wonder Years,” expressed his condolences, remembering her as a “warm and talented” individual.
