Royal Mail Honors Duran Duran with Special Stamp Collection Celebrating 50-Year Legacy

POLICY WIRE — City, Country — Royal Mail has launched a special stamp collection to honor Duran Duran’s five-decade-long journey from the Birmingham music scene to global stardom.
The commemorative set highlights the band’s iconic album artwork, tracing their evolution through decades of musical innovation. A miniature sheet also showcases tour posters from the 1980s to the 2020s, offering a visual chronicle of their live performances over the years.
Formed in 1978, the band is known for hits like Rio, Hungry Like The Wolf, and Ordinary World, with two UK number one singles and a chart-topping album to their name. Lead vocalist Simon Le Bon called the release a ‘massive visual validation’ of the group’s legacy, calling it a ‘pinch yourself’ moment for the band.
Le Bon reflected on the significance of the stamps, noting that they represent more than just a tribute—they validate the band’s long-term success. He emphasized that the recognition came as a surprise, given the early struggles they faced.

Keyboardist Nick Rhodes described being featured on British stamps as a ‘real honour,’ while bassist John Taylor called the project a ‘Duran Duran legacy initiative.’ Drummer Roger Taylor said the collaboration makes the band feel like an integral part of the country’s cultural identity.
The stamp collection includes eight album covers, ranging from their debut to Future Past. Le Bon praised the decision to focus on album art rather than photographs, saying it better reflects the band’s musical legacy. He believes fans will be proud of the tribute.
Rhodes called the stamps ‘mini masterpieces,’ recalling his childhood fascination with Royal Mail stamps. He expressed excitement at becoming a part of that tradition. Duran Duran joins an elite group of musicians featured on Royal Mail stamps, including The Beatles, Queen, and The Rolling Stones.
The release coincides with the 45th anniversary of the band’s debut album and its breakthrough single Planet Earth. Pre-orders for the stamps and collectible items begin on September 10, with general sale starting on September 17.
