POLICY WIRE — Oxford, UK — Adina Mihai, 31, and Madalin Dumitru, 33, have been sentenced to lengthy prison terms for the drugging and murder of two men following the offer of sexual services. The couple targeted their victims through online advertisements.
The court heard that Mihai and Dumitru met their victims, aged 29 and 34, through a classifieds website where they posed as sex workers. Once the men arrived at a pre-arranged location, they were drugged, robbed, and subsequently killed.
Thames Valley Police launched a thorough investigation after the bodies of the victims were discovered. Forensic evidence and witness testimonies led to the arrest of Mihai and Dumitru. The couple was charged with murder, robbery, and administering a substance to stupefy.
During the trial, prosecutors detailed the calculated nature of the crimes, emphasizing the premeditation involved in luring the victims. Both defendants were found guilty on all counts.
Sentencing the pair, the judge highlighted the severity of their actions, noting the vulnerability of the victims who were seeking companionship. Mihai received a 25-year sentence, while Dumitru was given a 30-year term, reflecting the differing levels of involvement in the crimes.
In a statement, a Thames Valley Police spokesperson said: “This was a complex and disturbing case that required extensive investigation and collaboration with multiple agencies. We are satisfied with the outcome and hope it brings some closure to the families of the victims.”
