POLICY WIRE — City, Country — The brother of Pope Leo XIV, Louis Prevost, is currently undergoing treatment for cancer, as revealed by his wife, Deborah Prevost, in an interview with CBS News.
Deborah Prevost did not disclose the stage of her husband’s illness but confirmed he is participating in a clinical trial at a local hospital. She noted that Louis was first diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2017 and managed to keep the disease under control after treatment in 2019, which included stem cell therapy and a clinical trial. However, he recently fell out of remission, she said.
While she could not provide details about Pope Leo’s condition, she mentioned that her husband and the pope spoke last week before Louis began his trial. “He called to let us know what would be happening,” she said. “We keep praying, keeping spirits up for both of them.” Earlier this week, the Vatican announced that Pope Leo underwent surgery confirming he has lung cancer, though no details on the stage or potential spread were released.
