POLICY WIRE — Tucson, Arizona — Promising Polish basketball talent Karolina Ułan has officially committed to the University of Arizona women’s basketball program, a move anticipated by head coach Becky Burke.
International Talent Joins Wildcats Roster
This highly anticipated announcement confirms earlier speculation that a significant international player was verbally committed to the Wildcats. Coach Burke had subtly hinted at the addition of an overseas athlete in late February, with signs strongly pointing towards the skilled Polish wing.
Ułan’s commitment was publicly confirmed Monday morning, solidifying a valuable acquisition for Arizona. Her arrival brings a blend of professional experience and youth, poised to make an immediate impact on the collegiate court.

Impressive Professional Pedigree from Europe
Before joining Arizona, Ułan developed her skills with Polish club VBW Gdynia. During her tenure there, she gained invaluable experience competing in both the prestigious EuroCup and EuroLeague tournaments, showcasing her abilities on a major European stage.
The 2025-26 season saw Ułan participate in 18 games for Gdynia’s top-tier squad, which competes in the Orlen Basket Liga Kobiet (OBLK), Poland’s premier women’s league. She also made two appearances for the club’s second-level team, Gdynia2, playing in Liga1.
Her performance in OBLK was notable, averaging 12.7 points per game. She shot 41.5 percent from inside the arc and 29.4 percent from three-point range, complemented by a solid 77.1 percent from the free-throw line. Ułan also contributed significantly with 3.3 rebounds, 1.0 blocks, and 0.9 steals per contest, alongside 2.6 assists against 2.2 turnovers in nearly 30 minutes of play each game.
“Karolina’s professional background and extensive international experience at a young age make her a unique and exciting addition to our team,” noted an observer close to the program.
The OBLK league is familiar territory for the Wildcats, as former Arizona standout Cate Reese also competed there last season. In her brief stint with Gdynia2, Ułan posted an impressive 16.5 points per game over 17.5 minutes, demonstrating her scoring prowess with 75 percent shooting on two-point attempts.
Extensive International Experience with Polish National Program
Ułan has been a consistent presence in the Polish national basketball program since her debut at the 2021 FIBA U16 European Challengers. The 6-foot-1 forward has represented Poland at various age levels, including the U18 European Championships in 2022 and 2023, and the U20 EuroBasket in both 2024 and 2025.
Her progression culminated in a call-up to the senior national team roster for the 2027 EuroBasket Qualifiers. Across five FIBA youth tournaments, she maintained an average of 9.7 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.6 assists over 33 games, showcasing her well-rounded capabilities.
Her U16 debut was particularly strong, where she averaged 11.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 1.8 assists, with her rebounding total matching her career best at the youth level. Ułan’s peak scoring performance came at the 2025 FIBA U20 EuroBasket, where she averaged 14.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game. She also gained valuable experience with the senior national team, averaging 3.7 points and 1.0 rebounds across three qualifying games.
At 21 years old, Ułan brings a level of maturity and professional game exposure rare for an incoming freshman. Her years competing against seasoned professionals in Europe, akin to other young athletes making a significant jump in their careers, will undoubtedly benefit the Arizona Wildcats.
