Philippine Authorities Launch Probe Into Laptop Found at Thomas Markle’s Former Residence
Philippine police are forensically examining a laptop discovered at Thomas Markle's former home alongside child abuse imagery. Investigation results pending.
POLICY WIRE — Manila, Philippines — Philippine law enforcement officials have launched an investigation into a laptop discovered at the former residence of Thomas Markle, the estranged father of Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex. The device was reportedly found alongside a collection of child abuse imagery.
Interior Minister Jonvic Remulla confirmed that the Philippine National Police (PNP) conducted a search of the property in Cebu after receiving reports from Thomas Markle Jr. The minister stated that the laptop is currently undergoing forensic analysis, with comprehensive findings expected within one week.
Thomas Markle, who is the father-in-law of Prince Harry, reportedly resided in the Philippines before returning to the United States earlier this year. He has denied all allegations of wrongdoing regarding the materials discovered at the site.
Minister Remulla indicated that the government intends to pursue appropriate legal actions against Mr. Markle should the forensic evidence prove sufficient to support criminal charges. The PNP plans to coordinate with international counterparts to locate the elder Markle as the inquiry proceeds.
The discovery follows reports from the British tabloid The Sun, which stated that Thomas Markle Jr. uncovered the disturbing materials while sorting through items left behind at his father’s former home. Meghan Markle issued a statement on Friday expressing that she was deeply distressed by the accusations.
The Duchess noted that she had previously severed contact between her children and her father due to earlier troubling and disturbing allegations. She further revealed that in 2018, she was made aware of a letter sent to London’s Metropolitan Police and Royalty and Specialist Protection that contained similar claims.
While the Metropolitan Police confirmed they had passed the information to the royal couple at the time, they did not share the details with other law enforcement agencies. Meghan and Prince Harry, who stepped back from royal duties in 2020, returned to the United Kingdom with their children in August.
