The incident came to light after an environmental officer visited the residence and instructed the pensioner to either relocate or close his window to mitigate the disturbance.

The accused, identified as Duffy, reportedly became “completely insane” due to the constant noise from the pond. In a bid to resolve the issue, he poured motor oil into the water, resulting in the death of the fish. Authorities were alerted to the situation, leading to Duffy’s arrest — and subsequent charges.

An environmental officer who visited the property stated, “Duffy was given the option to move or close his window to reduce the noise. Instead, he took matters into his own hands with disastrous results for the fish.”

The case highlights the tensions that can arise from noise complaints and the drastic measures some individuals may resort to in seeking resolution. Duffy is set to appear in court to face the charges brought against him.
