POLICY WIRE — City, Country — Recent changes to council regulations concerning the use of specific bin bags have compelled the volunteer group Pride in Pill to reschedule their planned litter cleanup event. The group, which has been utilizing red bags for waste collection over the past eight years without encountering any issues, cited the new rules as the reason for the postponement.
“We have always used the red bags for our litter picks, and it has worked well for us and the community,” said a spokesperson for Pride in Pill. “The new regulations have come as a surprise, and we need to ensure we are in compliance before proceeding with our activities.”
The local council introduced the new rules to standardize waste collection practices across the city. According to a council statement, the aim is to enhance efficiency and reduce confusion among residents and volunteer groups regarding proper waste disposal methods.
“We understand the importance of community cleanup efforts and appreciate the work that groups like Pride in Pill do,” a council representative said. “Our new regulations are designed to create a more streamlined system for waste management. We are open to working with volunteer groups to find solutions that allow them to continue their valuable work while adhering to the new rules.”
Pride in Pill has not announced a new date for the litter cleanup event. The group is currently in discussions with the council to find a mutually agreeable solution that will allow them to resume their activities as soon as possible.
