IWLCA Women’s Lacrosse Top 10: Week 11 Breakdown
1. North Carolina Tar Heels (13-1, 10-0 ACC)
The Tar Heels maintained their top position, entering the ACC Tournament after a decisive 11-5 victory against No. 19 Duke. Despite trailing 5-3 at halftime, UNC unleashed an impressive eight unanswered goals to secure the win.
Chloe Humphrey was a pivotal force, contributing seven goals that fueled North Carolina‘s success. Their efficiency proved key, even with a 10-8 disadvantage in draw controls.
UNC is now poised to face the Blue Devils once more in the ACC Tournament quarterfinal, with a coveted spot in the semifinals on the line.
2. Northwestern Wildcats (13-3, 7-1 B1G)
Northwestern held firm at second place following a hard-fought 9-7 win over No. 8 Michigan. The Wolverines, fresh off a dominant performance against Maryland, posed a serious threat.
The Wildcats orchestrated a crucial fourth-quarter comeback, erasing a 7-5 deficit to clinch the victory. Key offensive contributions came from Madison Taylor and Aditi Foster, who each recorded a hat trick in the low-scoring contest.
Despite early-season challenges, Northwestern ultimately secured the top seed in the Big Ten Tournament, earning a valuable bye directly into the semifinals.
3. Florida Gators (13-2, 4-0 Big 12)
The Gators ascended two spots to third after a commanding 16-5 triumph against Cincinnati, showcasing formidable form as their regular season concludes. Boo DeWitt led the charge for Florida with four goals.
Florida established an early 5-0 lead within the opening ten minutes and never relinquished control, cruising to an easy win. The team is well-positioned to sweep their remaining games, aiming for a favorable seeding in the upcoming NCAA Tournament.
4. Maryland Terrapins (14-2, 6-2 B1G)
The Terrapins slipped one spot to fourth, experiencing a challenging week that included a significant 15-4 loss to No. 8 Michigan. This followed a tight defeat against Northwestern.
Against Michigan, Emma Bradbury, Ava Class, and Calli Norris collectively scored 10 goals for the Wolverines, while goalkeeper Elizabeth Johnson made nine saves. Maryland rebounded with a 13-9 win over Ohio State, fueled by a dominant 7-1 second-quarter run, but their momentum appears uncertain heading into a rematch with the Buckeyes in the Big Ten Tournament.
5. Johns Hopkins Blue Jays (13-3, 6-2 B1G)
Johns Hopkins moved up one position after a thrilling 10-9 overtime victory on the road against No. 18 Penn State. Hat tricks from Taylor Hoss and Lacey Downey were crucial to their success.
The Blue Jays faced a potential collapse in regulation until late goals from Downey and Ava Angello forced overtime. Downey then delivered the golden goal, securing the dramatic win. Now, Johns Hopkins aims for consistency as they embark on their Big Ten Tournament journey against a tough Rutgers squad.
6. Syracuse Orange (12-4, 7-3 ACC)
Syracuse dropped two places to sixth after their impressive 12-game winning streak was snapped by a 7-4 road defeat against No. 12 Boston College. The Orange‘s defense, a consistent strength, was evident, and they edged out their opponents 10-9 in shots on goal.
Despite their defensive efforts, Syracuse struggled offensively, with no player registering multiple goals. The demanding ACC Tournament awaits, with a quarterfinal match against No. 20 Virginia, but the Orange‘s strong season positions them well for the NCAA Tournament.
7. Navy Midshipmen (15-1, 7-1 Patriot League)
The Midshipmen held their ground at seventh, demonstrating exceptional dominance within the Patriot League. Their recent performances include outscoring opponents 47-8 over two games.
Against Colgate, Navy achieved a commanding 24-8 advantage in shots on goal and a significant 22-9 lead in draw controls. With only one loss this season, to No. 23 Loyola Maryland, the Midshipmen are contenders for a top-five ranking in the NCAA Tournament if they continue their conference winning streak.
8. Michigan Wolverines (11-5, 5-3 B1G)
Michigan made a notable three-spot jump to eighth, fueled by a resounding 15-4 victory over No. 4 Maryland, which firmly re-established them in the championship conversation. Despite some earlier setbacks, the Wolverines have proven their ability to compete with top teams, exemplified by their fourth-quarter lead against Northwestern.
The team now has an opportunity to make a significant impact in the Big Ten Tournament, commencing with an opening-round matchup against No. 18 Penn State.
9. Yale Bulldogs (12-2, 6-0 Ivy League)
The Bulldogs moved down one spot to ninth after a narrow 14-13 victory over rival Harvard on Senior Day. The win was secured by critical unanswered fourth-quarter goals from Kate Gould and Kelly Holmes.
Yale faced considerable pressure, trailing 9-7 at halftime and losing the draw control battle 19-10. However, five goals from Gould, alongside multi-tally performances from Ashley Newman, Meg Bohan, and Whitney Froeb, ultimately led them to victory. The Bulldogs will now aim to prevent an upset in their final regular-season game against Cornell.
10. Clemson Tigers (13-4, 7-3 ACC)
Clemson slipped one position to tenth, having successfully handled Florida State with a 16-7 win. After holding an 8-6 lead at halftime, the Tigers dominated the final two quarters to secure a comfortable victory.
Key to their win was a 17-7 advantage in draw controls and a 34-14 lead in overall shots, marking their sixth consecutive game with at least 16 goals. The challenging ACC Tournament now looms, with a tough quarterfinal matchup against No. 16 Notre Dame.
