POLICY WIRE — London, United Kingdom — A coroner has determined that Motörhead guitarist Phil Campbell passed away due to multi-organ failure following complications from multiple surgeries, which were deemed necessary.
Campbell, who played with the band from 1984 until its dissolution in 2015, died at age 64 on March 13. He had undergone two liver transplants and bowel surgery earlier this year at the Royal Free Hospital in London.

The inquest at St Pancras Coroner’s Court concluded that his death could not have been prevented. Dr. Richard Brittain, the coroner, stated that the cause of death was recognized complications from surgical procedures. Campbell had previously struggled with alcohol use but had remained sober for seven years prior to his passing.
