Massachusetts Prosecutors Announce Retrial for Lindsay Clancy Following Mistrial in Triple Killing
Massachusetts prosecutors confirm plans to retry Lindsay Clancy for the murder of her three children after a mistrial. Potential trial set for March.
POLICY WIRE — Massachusetts — State prosecutors officially announced on Monday that they intend to proceed with a second trial against Lindsay Clancy, the mother accused of killing three of her young children.
The 36-year-old Connecticut native currently faces murder charges, but the initial trial ended in a mistrial after the jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict.
During a heated court hearing on November 2, the state indicated its commitment to retrying Clancy, though they have not yet finalized the specific charges they will pursue in the next proceedings.
While the prosecution is moving forward, there is a possibility they could opt for lesser charges. This might include second-degree murder, which applies to unlawful killings involving extreme recklessness or malice.
The presiding judge is currently considering legal arguments and appears to suggest a retrial could begin as early as March.
Clancy’s legal team has sought to have the murder charges dismissed following the failure of the first jury to come to a unanimous decision.
