Kelly Clarkson and NYC Store Clash Over $15K Bird Automaton
Kelly Clarkson and Art of Play in Brooklyn clash over a $15k bird automaton. Social media feud escalates as both sides deny wrongdoing.
POLICY WIRE — New York City, United States — A social media feud has erupted between singer Kelly Clarkson and a New York City-based shop after the pop star criticized a sales associate for what she described as a dismissive interaction at Art of Play in Brooklyn.
Clarkson, known for her hit song Breakaway, shared on X that she visited the store, which offers home goods, puzzles, games, toys, and books, and felt she was treated poorly. She compared the experience to a scene from the film “Pretty Woman” and accused the employee of being rude and unhelpful.
In response, Art of Play posted an Instagram statement clarifying that Molly, a singing and dancing bird automaton, was not for sale and had been part of the shop’s displays since its 2024 opening. The store also claimed that Clarkson had only spent five minutes in the store and that they had explained the bird was not for sale but that a similar model could be purchased for $15,000. Clarkson later called the store a “liar” and reiterated her claims on social media.
