POLICY WIRE — City, Country — At least 11 people were killed in Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanon on Saturday, marking some of the deadliest strikes since agreements in June aimed to ease hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that the strikes were in response to an attack by Hezbollah on its troops in southern Israel. The Iran-backed militant group vowed that the attacks would be “met with what they deserve.”

Hezbollah, in a statement, condemned the Israeli action and warned of a firm response. “The Zionist aggression will not go unanswered,” the group said.

This escalation comes despite efforts to maintain a fragile calm following agreements brokered in June that sought to reduce cross-border violence.

The situation remains tense as both sides exchange threats and accusations. Further developments are expected as the region braces for potential retaliatory actions.
